{Psalm 75:6} For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes exaltation.
{Psalm 75:7} But God is the judge. He puts down one, and lifts up another. -- RLIV
David directly speaks of himself as being God's choice, rather than Saul or Saul's descendants. God took a poor shepherd and exalted him to the throne of Israel. Not only this, the throne was to remain in the family of David forever. At the same time Saul and his family were rejected and were, in effect, put down. Nevertheless, the principle holds true today. In the world, God has overall control, and yet for a time he permits or allows evil and evil rulers to ascend into power. Within the Christian community, God has permitted the rise of leaders who have not remained faithful to the faith once delivered to the saints, while those who are endeavoring to hold to faithfulness have been held in low esteem, or even excommunicated. Jesus said that if one is great in service of the Heavenly Father, that one is last, and is servant of all. In other words, God Himself exalts the one who is most humble, and those who are engrossed in being a servant of all of God's children. When electing elders or others to serve in the congregation, this element of humility should not be overlooked.
