{Psalm 111:10} The reverence of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom. -- RLIV.
THIS is the only proper attitude of the creature toward the Creator, the Author of our being, and the Creator, Preserver and Lord of the whole universe. When He speaks, therefore, our ears should be reverently attentive to His voice, and every power alert to do His bidding. Our safety, our happiness, and that nobility of character which prompts to love and gratitude, and which promptly and wisely heeds instruction and advances in knowledge and wisdom, all depend primarily upon our supreme reverence for Jehovah. And therefore Jehovah would foster and cultivate in us that becoming, filial reverence that is due to His name. -- Based on excerpt from "The Ark Brought to Jerusalem", Watch Tower, July 1, 1896, R2002:3

Today the world has little or no reverence for God. Reverence for our Creator calls for one to look away from one's common thoughts, plans and schemes so as ponder upon the grandeur of God's grandeur, and possibly of the love He has shown to us in the way we are made, and in the creation all about us. A little boy, about 3 years old, in looking at his feet and how he could make his toes wiggle, asked his mother, "How can I wiggle my toes like that?" She wisely answered, "That is the way God made you." That little boy marveled at this ability and thought about how great God must be. He had come to have reverence for God at a very early age.
Most translations render the Hebrew word often transliterated as "yirah" with some form of the word "fear." It is indeed a reverential fear of God that is being spoken of. Such a fear is a healthy fear, since it is out of love for the Heavenly Father. As a son seeks to please his natural father out of love, and thus fears to displease his father, so is the reverential fear that one should have with our Heavenly Father, Jehovah. -- Ronald R. Day, Sr.
